Happy Tuesdays
“Spelling” at Santa Rosa Junior College
Something special happens on Tuesdays at Santa Rosa Community College. A group of "spellers" come together to develop, learn, and connect. For those with apraxia, communication is challenging. Apraxia is a neurological disorder that causes a disconnection in the brain. Someone with this disorder may have words and thoughts but cannot express them verbally. This is where "spelling" comes in. Spelling opens the doors for communication by using letterboards and keyboards. A Communication Regulation Partner (CRP) works with spellers to help them stay focused on their task.
Lindsey Goodrich and Buckminster Barrett are CRPs that lead Happy Tuesdays at the community college in Santa Rosa, California. In this video they share what their roles are and how it impacts their lives and those they work with.
